ME ME ME! I was in Seattle and came home to one jillion emails and too many deadlines! *L*
So far I have used email, a blog, web sites, flickr, and MySpace with the teens. I was interviewed in a podcast using Skype. I use chat programs, too, but just at home to chat with librarian friends, our library is still skeptical of chat.
Re: email… I create mailing lists for the different groups of teens to keep them up to date with programs, meetings, decision making, news, etc. Works pretty well except teens change their email addresses frequently or lose internet connection at home and their mail boxes fill up and are abandoned.
The blog is okay, except the one I have to use with my library doesn't have an rss feed so that means teens have to remember to look at it. Same goes with web sites. I usually send out emails to remind them to check the sites and blog.
I just started with flickr. Fairly easy to use without reading too many directions… my measure of a good program haha
The MySpace is great. My Ani-manga Club asked me to start one and they talk to me a lot on it and they check it frequently for news. Interestingly, my Teen Advisory Board did not want a MySpace because none of them have a page. Different group of teens.
The podcast thing was kind of fun. You can do them free with software you download at Audacity.com (or other sites) and a microphone. I did mine over Skype because it was an interview. Skype is a chat/phone program where you can talk computer to computer for free with a mic.
